Galloway National is truly a special golfing experience. With so many outstanding holes carved from the sandy soil, lined with majestic pine trees, and boarded by the natural beauty of the bay, picking signature holes is a real challenge. Playing a strong 7111 yards from the back tees and 6645 from the member tees, Galloway National provides the type of challenge that serious golfers dream of conquering. The Galloway experience is one to be enjoyed every time you play the course. The 1st is a beautiful par 4 that starts from a raised tee box, and doglegs right around a sandy waste area. You can only see the landing area and not the green. Upon reaching the fairway the green suddenly comes into view perched up in the air with nothing beyond it but miles of open space across the marsh land of Reeds Bay. The position of the players second shot is essential to allow him a good line in, but even with a short iron the contours of the green make the ideal position on the putting surface a very small target. The second hole is one of the world's great short par threes, but what it lacks in length it makes up for with a spectacular view of the bay that guards the green on two sides. Accuracy is a must on this hole as it is on many holes at Galloway. The third heads back inland and has a different character, in fact no two holes at Galloway are alike, which is an achievement in itself. The par 5, 6th is an excellent hole that plays all of it's 551 yards. It is protected by sand and waste area up the entire left side while trees stand guard on the right. The tenth at 480 yards, slowly climbs uphill and gives you a taste of the challenge that awaits you on the back nine. The final three holes will burn a lasting impression of Galloway's subtle genius, starting from the raised tee of the par five 16th hole, and ending with the well-guarded and very undulating green of the par 4 18th. Sand and water guard the entire left side of the 584 yards, while dense pines guard the right. The view from this tee is both spectacular and a little daunting. The fairway sweeps down to the landing area then gently rises to the green. The 253 yard 17th hole, with its huge undulating green, is backed by the beauty of the bay, and makes for a spectacular end to the par three holes. While the 476 yard dogleg 18th hole swings uphill to the right and is guarded by waste areas and natural vegetation up the entire length of the hole. The beauty, charm and challenge of the course leaves you breathless, as does the incredible conditioning. Perhaps the best accolade you'll hear from people playing Galloway National for the first time is they actually remember every single hole! And the memory lives on.
